Talking Ted

Ok, so this isn’t technically a blog post about advertising, marketing, design, PR, etc. But it’s something I like and find inspiring, so hopefully that allows me to bend the rules somewhat.

Yesterday I stayed late to watch Seth Godin’s Ted Talk and it was as awesome as I thought it would be. For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about when I say ‘Ted Talk’ let me clarify.

TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is an annual conference that defines its mission as “ideas worth spreading”. The topics range from technology theories to education philosophies to design to environmental breakthroughs to leadership and more.

Basically it is a convention of today’s genius minds, talking about cool and interesting stuff. Their presentation skills alone are worth watching, not to mention some of the fascinating conclusions they draw within them. Or as they call it on the site, ‘Riveting talks by remarkable people, free to the world’

Anytime I feel like getting inspired, learning something new, or questioning ‘what’s next’, I like to scroll through Ted Talks till I find one that hits the mood. So here’s where I get back to marketing.

Seth Godin, (here is link for his blog) is a marketer who I admire. He was/is a pioneer in social media, studying the behavior behind it and how it can align with marketing/advertising. During his Ted Talk, he goes over some theories from his newest book, Tribes.

Check it out below (warning-it’s a little long: 17 minutes).

Philosophy of leadership and online networks not your thing? I highly encourage you to go to www.ted.com and find a topic that is. You’ll be glad you did.
