Pick it Up Y’all

On Thursday at the Region’s Charity Classic we introduced Pick It Up Y’all to an audience of representatives from the corporate community. The Jefferson County Mayors Association has endorsed the initiative and will be spearheading the effort. With Pick It Up Jefferson County municipalities will plan neighborhood cleanup activities in their own neighborhoods. They will also help their neighbors do the same. The overall objective is to develop a self-sustaining community clean-up effort that will unite Jefferson County municipalities, instill neighborhood pride and showcase the positive impact of collaboration.

Why a litter campaign?

Statistics indicate that Jefferson County needs increased interest and awareness about litter-related issues. Southern states have the nations worst scorecard for efforts to keep litter off their highways. Alabama ranks No. 7 for lack of litter work. By educating communities with the know-how to be litter-free and by providing the right support, Pick It Up will become a self-sustaining community initiative within neighborhoods throughout the region.

The video below gives a great overview of what Pick It Up is all about. The program launches later this summer. If you’re interested in getting involved, please let us know. This project is a partnership between civic leaders, corporations and anyone who wants to volunteer time. Look forward to hearing from you!
